So, having worked with Versace Dental (now Verdant Dental) since around 2005, I’ve enjoyed watching many of my patients and their families grow up for more than a decade. I’ve seen mums and dads, their kids, their kids’ kids and so on, as we do great family and general dentistry!
General and Family Dentistry – why is longterm care with a trustworthy dentist so important?
So we all know kids look like their parents – this includes teeth and smiles! You might get your mum’s “gummy” smile, or you grandfather’s weak enamel. Fortunately we can often detect these patterns early, and early treatment can help minimise or eliminate these “inherited” problems.
Kids and children now have better health than their parents!
One great example is to just think of what your parent’s teeth might be like. Is there a whole lot of silver/grey/black fillings in their back teeth? I recommend tooth sealants to all kids, teenagers and young adults in order to avoid the old’ “drill and fill” that dentists used to do 20 years ago.
Naturally, back teeth have little lines and grooves in them. Even with the best brushing, often tiny bits of food and sugars get caught in these grooves, leading to black holes and fillings. The best way to explain tooth sealants, is that they’re like a clear protective book covering that you’d put on expensive school books – liquids and everything else just slide right off!
These tooth involve no needles, (usually) no drilling, and you can eat and drink almost immediately after they’re done! If your kids aged under 17 are covered by Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule, there’s also no charge for them! If you have health insurance with extras, these sealants might only cost $10-20 each! Dental sealants are the best gift you can give to your kids!
