What’s the CDBS? We’ve had the mad rush that was school holidays with lots of kids, teachers and parents coming in for their dental work – and BTW, if you have CDBS (Child Dental Benefits Scheme) letter hanging off your fridge door, you’d better call us quick smart on (03) 9379 3736 because it’s under threat of closure at any time!
This is what the Department of Health has to say about the CDBS:
Child Dental Benefits Schedule continues to operate
On 23 April 2016, the Australian Government announced its intention to close the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) from 1 July 2016. As the legislation was not passed by Parliament before the Government entered into caretaker arrangements on 9 May 2016, the CDBS remains open.
The CDBS provides individual benefits for a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital.
So what does this mean for you? The Government managed to actual create and setup a dental plan that was well thought out and reasonably funded, which they then wanted to close down. A plan that would help thousands of kids to receive valuable care, at an age where they can most benefit from it. Just the other day I referred a couple of children to see Dr Alpa Lodhiya in our practice (Alpa loves working with kids) because this teenage girl had such large holes in her adult teeth, she just about needed them removed – and at the age of 13, this is tragic! They’ll never grow back, her other teeth can shift around, and a number of other drastic consequences.
We’re amazing dentists, who care about one thing only – doing the right thing by you. And letting kid’s suffer bad teeth isn’t right.
Getting back to that letter on the fridge about the CDBS – as the Department of Health says, the Government is keen to take away dental care for your kids. At Verdant Dental, we see all children who are eligible for the CDBS. We bulk bill CDBS treatment, as we believe it’s important your kids learn a valuable lesson that teeth are for life.
The CDBS is still open, however could close at any time. Call us now on (03) 9379 3736 to make an appointment!
