Essendon DFO Plane crash this morning

Essendon plane crash, Tuesday February 21st 2017

This morning, there was an awful plane crash. A light plane leaving Essendon Airport ran into trouble and crashed into Essendon DFO around 9am.

Tragically, all 5 people onboard the plane have not survived. We hope and pray for their families. We have been in the area for many years and know plenty of people who work at Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Essendon airports, and hope you are all doing well. Reports say the passengers were heading to a golf trip at King Island.

Apparently the plane crashed into the Spotlight building at DFO. Back in 2008, we moved our dental practice from 5 Treadwell Road to the current location at 326 Keilor Road. For the locals and longterm patients – you might remember that this was the original site of Spotlight Niddrie. From our first floor location, we can just about see the airport and DFO from our dental surgery windows. Personally, I love watching the planes takeoff and land, plus we get many helicopters leaving from Essendon airport too.

Current road closures include the Tullamarine and Calder freeways inbound (towards the city). In addition, Bulla Road is closed at the freeway end. If you are heading to Tullamarine or Avalon airports today, you should be ok heading out but coming towards the city may be delays.

While one of our staff members was delayed due to the freeway closure, none of us were otherwise affected. For anyone who might be delayed by road closures today, please keep in mind the tragic loss of life and the impact today will have on their families.

Regards to all,

the Verdant Dental team

Tim is a slightly strange (in a good way) person who would rather spend all day under a blanket playing Playstation with his dog Hannah. Except there's also this "day job" thing where he actually enjoys talking and relating to his patients at Verdant Dental - creating healthier, happier smiles with a wonderful team to make the days fly by!
